Death of Independent and Moderate Democrats

on Tuesday, November 16, 2010

The truth is the Tea Party Republican Movement has not made this country any closer to repsentation. And I heard from one of those Tea Party Republicans themselves, the goal of the Texas House is to shrink all other voices that are not Republicans. The Texas Democratic Party has been shrinking and shrinking since 1994...and now thanks to the mighty efforts of redistricting they are going to throw all of the hardworking Democrats that have represented their people under the bus. People that have done a good job.

I mean, does Jim Landtroop have amnesia? It's only been five years- We have had one of the greatest representatives in our state. A Speaker of the Texas House, and a great phillantropist, and loved by the city of Plainview and this ares- Pete Laney. He was a DEMOCRAT. Now the Republican party wants to unseat all of these Blue Dogs (In both State and National) and put in radical Libertarians in their place.

What is going to happen, may you ask?

Well this is what is going to happen...

The country is going to become even MORE polarized. The Democratic Party is going to move strongly to the left, because all that will be left will be the Pelosi Social Democrats. And the Republican Party has already been more and more pronounced as Extreme Right.

That will be all good and fine, if the almost 300 million people in America were either one extreme or the other. But, in most of my post I have highlighted that most Americans are not one extreme or the other!

I heard from a Tea Party Republican clear, "We are going to do things that aren't popular, we are going to cut programs... but it must be done." What in the hell, are they proposing to do?

Cut Social Security? Cut Medicare? Cut Federal Pell Grants?

Now, I am all for cutting spending in places it needs to be cut. Pork Barrel spending, sure... Pet Projects, sure. Even some revisions in Social Security, sure. But what they want to do, is to cut it all. We are on our own, folks.

Do you understand, that it will send us back in the dark ages? They talk about death panels... but cutting programs like Medicare will create a death panel. How dare you, How dare you! How immoral are you?

Don't take everything at face value. Think about progress, and the future and care for our seniors. Think about the young person who wants to make something of himself, but he needs to go to school to do it- He needs some help. Think about the family of seven, that lose their father and they have no life insurance policy and HAVE to rely on Social Security. Think about a single mom who has lost her job, and is trying to get back into the workplace and has to draw unemployment to feed her children. Think about those people, and tell me if cutting our social services is a good idea.

I am not for a Socialist society, but I am for an equal society. I am for a FAIR society. I am not for people being dependent on the government. But, I am for the government helping people in dark times of need, when they have no where else to go.

When you have a system of government that doesn't do that, you have a government that will abuse it's power.

Thank you.

Midterms

on Tuesday, November 2, 2010

For months, I have been waiting for the tidal wave of Republicans to hit the congress. I have spent months reading news clippings, getting upset, and then suddenly came to a great peace. My Friends, I am okay with a Republican takeover in the congress. And here is why, I think it can be good for the country:

1) The House and the Senate being divided will actually lean to compromise.
Americans aren't conservative, they aren't liberal-either. They are uniquely all shades in between. It's hard to see here in West Texas, but even here in Plainview-- you will see that some people, are different in what they support. For instance- myself- I support Universal Health Care, but oppose Abortion and Gay Marriage. I bet I can find some others that don't want extremists in the congress. That being said, when you have two legislative bodies that are ideologically different-they have no choice but to work together.

2) The President has no choice but to move to the center.
If the President continues pushing his ideology- which most of the Americans feel is too extreme. No matter how it might benefit the country, he will not be elected in 2012. The President has a choice to become the new Carter or the new Clinton. My thoughts are that I cannot see the President move to the center. Obama is already ready to be a one-term President. However, if he does want his job, which that's something that's not really evident right now... he will have no choice but to compromise as well.

3) Balanced Government is always better, and the people believe in it.
Reagan lost a lot of seats, Clinton did, and Bush did as well. With the exception of Bush... Both of the Former Presidents saw structure come to America. The people benefit by a balanced government.

What this election DOES not signify

1) An Extreme Right Mandate.
When I say Extreme Right mandate- I say that it's a state that says we deregulate everything- Banks, Housing Markets, Health Care, School Loans, etc.. etc... The win by the Tea Party Republicans were pushed by independents- who can be bought and sold through their pocketbooks. If the economy was better, if there was EVEN a move to try to revive the economy by the Obama administration and the Democrats-- there would be a different result tonight.

When it comes down to it...
The Midterm Election in 2010, looks much like the Midterm in 1994. And, midterms always change our country for the better.

I want to congratulate the Republicans that have won (except for Rick Perry. grr.)

Dave.
