The President did what he had to do.

The decision on the tax cuts, was very disheartening to me. As for anyone, that can be described as, "liberal". The Bush Tax Cuts really make no sense economically, and I don't want to venture into Beck territory and claim there is a conspiracy afoot. However, The President has some really tough choices to make right now. He's a Liberal President that now has an extreme Right Congress coming in, with a country that is predominantly Centrist. These things can drive anyone crazy, so the decision to compromise and keep the middle tax cuts (which are the same in both Democrat and Republican plans.) and to keep Unemployment benefits (at least for a while) is more important than to see our ideology win in the end. You have to sacrifice the holy cow, sometimes, to get the better prize.

The Progressives are calling him "spineless". Even though, I am largely dissapointed and would have the utmost respect if he had kept fighting for what he promised. The truth is this, none of us are in his shoes. It's easy to criticize others when you aren't there. Maybe that's why (with the exception of Carter) the Presidents don't criticize the Current Administration.

But there is something great to be learn here. The American people are being betrayed again, and it should not surprise anyone. Do you have any idea how much money is going to be put on top of our deficit, it will be to the tune of 700 billion dollars. Overall, it's going to cost us 4 trillion to keep this tax code. We are going to grow deeper in debt to foreign countries like China. What happens when we can't pay the bill? Will China come and demand the tab to be paid? It's quite ironic, that a movement that is so strongly against Communism and Socialism- depends on a Socialist Country to finance tax cuts for the rich.

The point of bringing all of this up, is that this is reckless control of our economy. It's gotten us in trouble many times, and it's continuing to get us into trouble.

But in hindsight, if we don't do this- we will all be hit really hard. And that I believe, was the President's reasoning in extending these tax cuts.
