Our duty to 9/11 First Responders

Many 9/11 First Responders gave their lives. But several did not, several went on living. Living in illness, many came down with Cancer and some have died. Mike Huckabee said on John Stewart, that a man named Michael died because of complications of cancer. It should be a no brainer that we owe our lives to these brave men. These men gave their lives. I have been really emotional lately, but I busted in tears like I haven't in a long time when I saw these men, plead to Congress for help. This is a country, that hope and freedom lives on. Yet, the Republicans have filibustered a bill that would help first responders.

Let me ask you something, when you think of the political party that is most patriotic, what would come to your mind? It's the Republicans right? I mean, God forbid those damn Muslims would construct a Mosque near ground zero. And, hell we had to go bomb Saddam because of his involvement in 9/11. Give me a freaking break.

This was a real bill that would help these brave men fight the battle that they have had to fight for years. We help our Military-- and those Congresmen have top of the line Health Insurance. These men, made the ultimate sacrifice, they were the first ones to lay down their lives for our country. And what do we give them? Well, they have been fired because of their medical bills, their health insurance has capped out, and they have been left to die.

Despite how you feel about the Health Care Bill, surely you can agree that these men deserve Health benefits more than any American citizen, right now.

But apparently, it's not that important to the Republicans.

It's more important, to get time off-- before they can finish business. After all, why should they work-- they can build up their corporate land after January anyway. It's more and more evident, that even though I am super pissed at the Democratic Party right now. I really hate the Republican party. I don't see how they sleep at night, knowing how wrong they are with History, People and Society.

So as you go home for the holidays- Mr. Mitch Mcconell and John Bohener, who show no restraint for emotion for your fellow Senators that are retiring, or your precious agenda in fighting for the American dream. Find it within your hearts, to shed a little tear, one little tear for the 9/11 First Responders. And realize that many of them, this may be their last Christmas and those that have been lost- are all thanks to you. May God, be with you.

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. (Life)

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." (Declaration of Independence, 1776)

Upon these three rights a whole new source of rights have stemmed off. But what did the framers really have in mind when they said that we are endowed by our Creator- Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness?

PART 1- LIFE-

Let's start with Life. We are endowed by our creator to be given life. There has been a constant debate in our country, when life really begins. Does it begin at conception or does it begin at birth? We get into heated arguments, because Abortion is a very touchy subject. I just want to point out, that Abortion will be something I never discuss in my blog. I am Pro-Life, in all cases, except in the life of the mother is in question. Plain and Simple. I think that Life is important, and that we are all given life by our Creator.

But, we never stop to think about Life after birth and Life until death. If we are given the right to life, then shouldn't we have all the means necessary to live a filling and fulfilling life in our country? There are two extremes to the Health Care debate. One is that Government Run Health Care needs to be implemented and that the government should run Health Care. I don't think that's entirely a good idea.The main problem with this argument is that it limits doctors and our own choice to get the care that fits us. It doesn't make sense to have a government controlled health care system. The ones that should control health care is you and your doctor. Not an elected official or a special interest group. I think any time the government steps in and mandates what we should do with our body, it's stepping on our rights.

However, I don't think a health care system governed by Insurance Companies and Drug Companies is right, either. The idea, that they have the power to say who gets health care or not, really makes me angry. I think they make unecessary profits on people. it's not moral, and it never has been. I think that the quality of health care shouldn't be dependent on who you are. It should be extending to all people. Because, Life is a right.

I don't know what the answer is, but when I have a good proposal- I will let you know. I think something that something that has a strong emphasis on controlling costs and personal responsibility will be the answer.

But back to Life. Life, is such a broad subject. What did they mean? Well,I think the framers were talking about the quality of life. If you look through European History, you will see a history bridled with those that didn't value life. They imagined a society that was fueled by the celebration of life. And they wanted to advocate a culture that advanced life. They gave their own life, so that this culture could exist. The framers were the most intelligent men on earth. They were starting something that was never done before.

So the question are we that culture? I would have to say, that even though we have pitfalls like the ones aforementioned. I believe we are that country that advocates life. Whether we act on it or not, we know in our hearts that every life is precious. We know that when a brave soldier gives his life, our hearts break. We know that when our brothers and sisters are killed in a mass terrorist attack, that it strikes at the core of our hearts. Life, is understood by all to be a strong element in our society.

In this troubling time in country, we need to remember the truth that Life should be re-examined. We need to realize that even if we burn to the ground, that this important element should be in our society. Because our creator gave us this right, and we should do everything in our power to protect it.

The President did what he had to do.

The decision on the tax cuts, was very disheartening to me. As for anyone, that can be described as, "liberal". The Bush Tax Cuts really make no sense economically, and I don't want to venture into Beck territory and claim there is a conspiracy afoot. However, The President has some really tough choices to make right now. He's a Liberal President that now has an extreme Right Congress coming in, with a country that is predominantly Centrist. These things can drive anyone crazy, so the decision to compromise and keep the middle tax cuts (which are the same in both Democrat and Republican plans.) and to keep Unemployment benefits (at least for a while) is more important than to see our ideology win in the end. You have to sacrifice the holy cow, sometimes, to get the better prize.

The Progressives are calling him "spineless". Even though, I am largely dissapointed and would have the utmost respect if he had kept fighting for what he promised. The truth is this, none of us are in his shoes. It's easy to criticize others when you aren't there. Maybe that's why (with the exception of Carter) the Presidents don't criticize the Current Administration.

But there is something great to be learn here. The American people are being betrayed again, and it should not surprise anyone. Do you have any idea how much money is going to be put on top of our deficit, it will be to the tune of 700 billion dollars. Overall, it's going to cost us 4 trillion to keep this tax code. We are going to grow deeper in debt to foreign countries like China. What happens when we can't pay the bill? Will China come and demand the tab to be paid? It's quite ironic, that a movement that is so strongly against Communism and Socialism- depends on a Socialist Country to finance tax cuts for the rich.

The point of bringing all of this up, is that this is reckless control of our economy. It's gotten us in trouble many times, and it's continuing to get us into trouble.

But in hindsight, if we don't do this- we will all be hit really hard. And that I believe, was the President's reasoning in extending these tax cuts.

Death of Independent and Moderate Democrats

The truth is the Tea Party Republican Movement has not made this country any closer to repsentation. And I heard from one of those Tea Party Republicans themselves, the goal of the Texas House is to shrink all other voices that are not Republicans. The Texas Democratic Party has been shrinking and shrinking since 1994...and now thanks to the mighty efforts of redistricting they are going to throw all of the hardworking Democrats that have represented their people under the bus. People that have done a good job.

I mean, does Jim Landtroop have amnesia? It's only been five years- We have had one of the greatest representatives in our state. A Speaker of the Texas House, and a great phillantropist, and loved by the city of Plainview and this ares- Pete Laney. He was a DEMOCRAT. Now the Republican party wants to unseat all of these Blue Dogs (In both State and National) and put in radical Libertarians in their place.

What is going to happen, may you ask?

Well this is what is going to happen...

The country is going to become even MORE polarized. The Democratic Party is going to move strongly to the left, because all that will be left will be the Pelosi Social Democrats. And the Republican Party has already been more and more pronounced as Extreme Right.

That will be all good and fine, if the almost 300 million people in America were either one extreme or the other. But, in most of my post I have highlighted that most Americans are not one extreme or the other!

I heard from a Tea Party Republican clear, "We are going to do things that aren't popular, we are going to cut programs... but it must be done." What in the hell, are they proposing to do?

Cut Social Security? Cut Medicare? Cut Federal Pell Grants?

Now, I am all for cutting spending in places it needs to be cut. Pork Barrel spending, sure... Pet Projects, sure. Even some revisions in Social Security, sure. But what they want to do, is to cut it all. We are on our own, folks.

Do you understand, that it will send us back in the dark ages? They talk about death panels... but cutting programs like Medicare will create a death panel. How dare you, How dare you! How immoral are you?

Don't take everything at face value. Think about progress, and the future and care for our seniors. Think about the young person who wants to make something of himself, but he needs to go to school to do it- He needs some help. Think about the family of seven, that lose their father and they have no life insurance policy and HAVE to rely on Social Security. Think about a single mom who has lost her job, and is trying to get back into the workplace and has to draw unemployment to feed her children. Think about those people, and tell me if cutting our social services is a good idea.

I am not for a Socialist society, but I am for an equal society. I am for a FAIR society. I am not for people being dependent on the government. But, I am for the government helping people in dark times of need, when they have no where else to go.

When you have a system of government that doesn't do that, you have a government that will abuse it's power.

Midterms

For months, I have been waiting for the tidal wave of Republicans to hit the congress. I have spent months reading news clippings, getting upset, and then suddenly came to a great peace. My Friends, I am okay with a Republican takeover in the congress. And here is why, I think it can be good for the country:

1) The House and the Senate being divided will actually lean to compromise.
Americans aren't conservative, they aren't liberal-either. They are uniquely all shades in between. It's hard to see here in West Texas, but even here in Plainview-- you will see that some people, are different in what they support. For instance- myself- I support Universal Health Care, but oppose Abortion and Gay Marriage. I bet I can find some others that don't want extremists in the congress. That being said, when you have two legislative bodies that are ideologically different-they have no choice but to work together.

2) The President has no choice but to move to the center.
If the President continues pushing his ideology- which most of the Americans feel is too extreme. No matter how it might benefit the country, he will not be elected in 2012. The President has a choice to become the new Carter or the new Clinton. My thoughts are that I cannot see the President move to the center. Obama is already ready to be a one-term President. However, if he does want his job, which that's something that's not really evident right now... he will have no choice but to compromise as well.

3) Balanced Government is always better, and the people believe in it.
Reagan lost a lot of seats, Clinton did, and Bush did as well. With the exception of Bush... Both of the Former Presidents saw structure come to America. The people benefit by a balanced government.

What this election DOES not signify

1) An Extreme Right Mandate.
When I say Extreme Right mandate- I say that it's a state that says we deregulate everything- Banks, Housing Markets, Health Care, School Loans, etc.. etc... The win by the Tea Party Republicans were pushed by independents- who can be bought and sold through their pocketbooks. If the economy was better, if there was EVEN a move to try to revive the economy by the Obama administration and the Democrats-- there would be a different result tonight.


When it comes down to it...
The Midterm Election in 2010, looks much like the Midterm in 1994. And, midterms always change our country for the better.

I want to congratulate the Republicans that have won (except for Rick Perry. grr.)

Thinking of Voting Rick Perry?

I know that there is a wide anti-sentiment against the Democratic Party in 2010. There is a great move to lump Democrats with the President, Pelosi, and Reid. But, when you go to the polls.. I want you to search your heart and think about Rick Perry. He has been our governor for nearly 12 years. 12 years! And what has happened under his watch?

--A border that is not protected.
Millions of Illegal immigrants cross into our border each day, and there is great esculating violence on our border.Rick Perry has denied the funds to get National Guard troops on our border, yet blames the Federal Government for not helping us out.

--A mandate to vaccinate young girls against HPV.
Pro Life groups and Pro Choice groups unite against this one. Why in the world would Perry issue an executive order for girls to be vaccinated against HPV? Well it's simple really, he's in bed with the Pharmacy companies-- he would get money from them if he pushed this through. What a creep... He issued a mandate that went against Women's rights so he could receive money? This is probably the most unethical thing he has done.

--Education is hitting new lows in the country.
Rick Perry has turned down funds from the government yet again, to jump start our schools. Texas has hit as the HIGHEST state of high school droup outs. the 4th in highest Teen Pregnancies (lack of Sexual Education) and the Texas School Board has rewritten text books to fit their ideological agenda. I am sorry, but Education is NOT about ideology it's about teaching children, to be the best they can be. School Districts are underfunded, and the standarized testing that was enacted by George W. Bush and followed religiously by Perry has made a mockery of Education and Teachers. It has RUINED our education system in America.

--He has spouted off crazy ideas of succession from the Union.
He has on several occasions talked about suceeding from the Union. He has bent towards Radical Rightism, when he himself is a Corporate Republican FOR financial, and political gain.


-- He DOESN'T WORK.
He only works eight-tweleve hours a week in the capital.

--He has became a millionare on our tax dollars.


So, when you cast your ballot think on these things... and I hope you realize that pushing the Republican button does not always mean the right thing to do. (no pun intended)

Let's give Bill White a chance, he is a good Independent Democrat that has great ideas, He is not Barack Obama.
